Deer Country | Application

Character Base

Character Name: Dito

Age: Canonically 22, visually 16 (And it’s not like his world had driver’s licenses so he’s shit outta luck.)

Canon (Date/Year Released) and Canon Point: Drakengard 3, released in 2013, after his “death” in Branch D.

Items Coming Along: Dito’s spear, Twisted Hunger, and the clothes on his back.

Character/Canon Content Warnings: Hoo boy. The Drakengard series was created by Yoko Taro, so content warnings pretty much come with the territory. Drakengard 3 in particular deals with violence, gore, plant parasitism, child abuse/death, body horror, mild incestual themes, sadomasochism, nihilism, human experimentation, living dolls, and apocalyptic themes. Specific to Dito are things like sadism, nihilism, sexual slavery, violence and gore (and the fetishization of such— Dito’s a sick fuck), brainwashing/loss of bodily autonomy, suicidal ideation, and fatphobia (though only pertaining to one specific person).

Character Background

Character/Canon History: Drakengard! 3!
Core Relationships:

Five-- Dito’s mistress. As her Disciple, Dito was tasked with serving Five as her retainer, bodyguard and even concubine, and was expected to perform these duties whether he wanted to or not. To say that Dito despised her is like saying the ocean is a little heavy on the salt.

Zero-- The protagonist of Drakengard 3, Dito’s second mistress, his occasional sexual partner and (unbeknownst to him) his creator. Zero is largely ambivalent toward Dito and he toward her, but there are some hints that they do hold some camaraderie toward each other. Somewhat. Kind of. It’s complicated.

Character Personality Through Key Moments

(2+) Positive Experiences/Traits:

His liberation from Five. For as long as he could remember, Dito had been in Five’s thrall, and she almost immediately began molding him, through magic and manipulation, into the type of servant that she desired. Dito became nothing more than a pretty pet to assuage her lustful appetite, a position he quickly grew to resent— but internally, because she was powerful enough to control even his most minute facial expressions. He’d tried to kill her only once during his servitude to her, and she quickly took control of his body with just a thought, forcing him to drop his weapon. To add further insult to injury, her only punishment to him was to lightly chide him, as if he were a child caught playing with something he shouldn’t have. It is here that Dito shows his cleverness, for he never tried that same stunt again. He merely played the part of the perfect servant, playing upon her vanity and greed and taking his small victories where he could find them. All the while, he bided his time for the perfect opportunity to strike— which eventually came when Zero stormed Five’s stronghold, and Dito wasted no time in taking revenge for all the abuse, the unwanted sex and the torture of having to listen to her sultry voice day in and day out. Spending a few minutes kicking and cursing her mutilated corpse was just icing on the cake, and he allied himself with Zero soon after.

His partnership with Zero. Dito has a much different relationship with Zero than he did with Five. While it’s implied he still regularly sleeps with her it’s of his own volition, and his overall rapport with her seems to be cordial, if playfully antagonistic at times. While the other Disciples in Zero’s employ use very formal nomenclature to refer to her, Dito is very casual when speaking to her, using the affectionate nickname “Z”, which she doesn’t seem to care enough to protest. For her part, Zero tends to look the other way when he expresses his sadistic proclivities (though his bloodthirst disturbs even her every once in a while) and while her response to his constant complaining and defiance is to threaten him with bodily harm, it never seems like she actually means it. It’s difficult to call them “friends”, considering Zero seems to want to have as few ties as possible and Dito seems to view friendship as a useless concept, but he seems to enjoy being her Disciple a lot more than he did with Five, not the least because he can freely speak his mind without having his true feelings suppressed or outright controlled.

(2+) Negative Experiences/Traits:

His servitude to Five. Out of all four Disciples seen in the game, Dito is by far the most sadistic, to the point where the mere thought of turning people inside out turns him on. While not all of his violent tendencies can be placed firmly at Five’s feet, her treatment of him certainly didn’t help his mental state. He was her beautiful doll and was made to act like one— though she allowed him to voice his opinions from time to time (though never to the extent that he could tell her what he really thought of her), through magic and gaslighting she forced him into a role that was most pleasing to her, that of an innocent young man with a wicked streak who blushed and stammered at the thought of sex but was very talented in bed. Dito had no choice but to play along with her fantasies, for Disciples could not go against their Intoner’s wishes. Unable to kill her or even himself due to the hold she had over him, he retained what little of his sanity he could through snarky comments and erotic secret fantasies about murdering her in the most gruesome ways possible.

Five, for her part, either didn’t seem to realize Dito’s hatred of her or engaged in willful ignorance of the fact, laughing off his reticence and his passive-aggressive defiance as him being “cute” and “shy”, and seeming to believe (or at least was willing to maintain the pretense) that he loved her unconditionally. Considering how he ended up finishing her off after her battle with Zero, he eventually made his true feelings for her very clear on the matter. It’s obvious that his time with Five had some long-lasting effects even after his escape from her. It’s heavily implied through certain comments of his that he is filled with self-loathing, describing himself as ugly and undesirable in a way that’s almost disturbingly nonchalant. He also appears to hold an immense amount of disdain for such virtues as friendship and love, stating several times that he thinks people are only pretending to experience those things to make themselves feel like better people than they actually are.

His betrayal of Zero. Dito’s partnership with Zero was a powderkeg— intense, dangerous and very liable to explode at a moment’s notice. That moment eventually came during a split in the original timeline known as “Branch D”, in which the Recorder known as Accord manipulated things behind the scenes to achieve a more successful outcome. This manipulation came with its own glitches, unfortunately. One such glitch involved Zero and her entourage encountering Five in the forest where they had met Three in a previous timeline. Just like in the original timeline, Five had been killed first out of all of the Intoners, but this time the flower partially resurrected her as a zombie. It is unknown what was going through Dito’s mind as he looked at the shambling undead corpse of his former mistress, flanked by her equally undead followers. Whatever it was, something snapped inside him and he began laughing hysterically, filled with delight at having found a world “where only ugly is beautiful” and that was perfect “for an undesirable sap like me”. He immediately switched sides, declaring his intent to engage in one final battle with Zero, a battle that resulted in his death when his Disciple magic was completely drained.

Deer Country Attributes

Canon Powers:

Proficiency with polearms
Proficiency with edged weapons
Survivalist
Enhanced strength
Enhanced speed
Summon magic: the Angel Phanuel

Only his natural, non-magical talents will be carried over fully-- the rest will be nerfed. The only exception is his summon magic, as he has a particular drawback associated with that-- without the aid of an Intoner, summoning an Angel into the physical realm will completely drain him of his magical energy, causing his form to dissolve into its original vessel: that of a common non-sapient white rock dove.

Blood Type: Vileblood

Omen: a female spotted hyena.

Blessed Day: May 18th, the first day that he can remember.

Patron Pthumerian: Bausphomette, to his extreme disappointment. He would’ve preferred Mariana.

Power Manifest:

Sense Manipulation: As a Vileblood, Dito will discover that he has a higher tolerance for pain than he did before, even having the power to deaden or enhance all physical sensations with just a thought. Eventually this will progress to the point where he will be able to do the same to others through physical touch. Shedding blood and applying it to an afflicted area will also produce this affect.

Blood Healing: Consuming blood will not only allow Dito to heal from wounds, but will also grant him increased speed, strength and stamina. Drinking blood directly will get the job done, but Dito will also be able to absorb blood through his skin if any happens to splash on him. Unfortunately this has a hidden side-effect of causing a very addictive sense of euphoria, and will increase Dito’s bloodthirst and chance of corruption the more he succumbs to his violent tendencies.

Hemophilia: Dito’s blood has properties beyond simple poison. When applied to a weapon it acts as an anticoagulant, causing bleeding that cannot be stopped with normal medical procedures. At its most base level it only causes light bleeding, but as Dito’s power grows it will eventually cause massive hemorrhaging.

Opt Out

Drakengard 3’s story deals with a lot of heavy and dark themes, and Dito’s backstory is no exception. It’s a tale of sexual slavery, brainwashing and emotional abuse, most of which is outlined more blatantly in his side novella, This Ugly World. I plan on only referring to it in vague language at the most (with an appropriate content warning in the header, of course) but if you’d still like to avoid discussion of it or avoid interacting with Dito completely, please feel free to let me know. No hard feelings!

CW FOR MILD NECROPHILIA: Because… yeah. A major cutscene towards the end of Branch D reveals that Five has been reanimated after being killed by Zero. However, her resurrection doesn’t go as planned and she comes back as a mindless zombie, turning all of her soldiers and followers into zombies in the process. Dito immediately becomes enamored with Five’s new look, turning on Zero instantly, which contributes to his death-by-dove-transformation. His sadism and cruelty are pretty well-established throughout the game, and it seems very much in character for Dito to betray Zero once he’s found something that better satisfies his insatiable bloodlust. However, it’s my opinion that this personality trait of falling in love with zombie!Five comes out of nowhere, and seems to be just a tasteless and lazily-constructed reason for Dito to betray Zero as well as a last-ditch effort to make him even more reprehensible than he already is. Plus the whole “falling in love with your rapist” trope is pretty disgusting on its own, so… yeah. I won’t be bringing this up ICly at all.

⇓in character⇓

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: You’re in for a rough time if you try that with Dito. After having to endure Five’s wanton and unwanted displays of affection he’s not exactly what one would call a touchy-feely person. Time will tell if he eases up a little, but as it stands now you risk a sharp rebuke, if he doesn’t just immediately take a spearhead to your face.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Yes. PLEASE put this sassy little bitch in his place– he is small and easily puntable.

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: If it turns out our CR is headed that way, absolutely! Dito’s not exactly subtle or particular when it comes to flirting (his game is utterly awful though, just as a warning) and he’s never actually had someone flirt back at him before. Romance is iffy with him, as his last “relationship” was very toxic, one-sided and basically foisted upon him. Basically he’s totally open to sex without strings (which is more an unfortunate byproduct of Five’s treatment of him than anything else), but your character will have to work hard to unlock a romantic endgame route with him.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Why the hell would you even Foreplay and afterglow is okay, but I’d prefer anything further than that to be fade-to-black/handwaved unless discussed beforehand. Late teens to late thirties is my cutoff age for any sexytimes.

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: Dito's canonically been brainwashed/mind controlled by his previous mistress, so he probably won't take too kindly to someone trying to get inside his head again... provided he catches you doing it.

MAGIC/POWERS: Again, anything that takes the little cockwart down a peg is fair game. Any sort of binding/bodily control won't go over well with him though-- see above.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Dito’s true form is that of a white rock dove. Having been imbued with magic by Zero as an attempt to weaken the powers of her Intoner sisters, he eventually grew powerful enough to take on sentience and a humanoid form as an unforeseen side effect. Completely taxing his Disciple magic will cause him to revert to his original form, basically causing him to suffer a complete death of personality until/unless it is reversed. He has absolutely no knowledge of this. (This also means he’s really, like… two years old at most. PLEASE someone make fun of him for this if the truth ever comes out.)

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: Insulting his appearance; seafood & the ocean in general (it brings back bad memories and makes him physically ill); taking control of his mind or body; being condescending, patronizing or infantilizing to him.

⇓out of character⇓

BACKTAGGING: Hell yeah! I backtag like a motherfucker.

FOURTH WALLING: Ask first, and I don't want any spoilers for Drakengard 3 revealed (Dito's aforementioned true form in particular) but otherwise it should be okay.

THREADHOPPING: Ask first, please!

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR, BUT CAN STILL PLAY: Nothing comes to mind at the moment, but I'll update this as needed.

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR AND THAT I CAN'T PLAY: CSA and graphic depiction of child abuse. Graphic depiction of hand/wrist/neck wounds are a big no for me as well, so if you could stay away from that or at least warn for it I’d appreciate it.
